When I was starting out, I didn’t really understand how people will make money from a blog. Then, I had only a little knowledge about how to set up a blog, with some here-and-there tips on how driving traffic to a blog works.

Yet, I had so many unanswered questions hanging in my mind.

And bla bla bla, and bla bla bla …

And I am sure you still have some of these questions unanswered.

There are an innumerable number of resources to learn from.

So no need to just keep doing what you have always done (that’s not effective enough).

Instead, go out and read up on other people’s blog posts and see what’s trending, their content marketing style, and their USP.

Do Not duplicate intellectual properties, learning from what they do and the way they do it will do.

In a situation where required knowledge of the basic building blocks of a successful blog is not there, there is, additionally,

2. Lack Of Traction and Traffic

We knew this one was coming.

You might as well have seen it a few times. This time around, I have a solution.

Traction in simple terms could be seen as momentum (progress over time). And with traction comes increased traffic.

And traffic unsurprisingly is the magic wand for success in the online world.

Without the traffic and readership, you are unfortunately just a hobby blogger.

Hobby bloggers aren’t doing bad at all, unless they didn’t intend to be just hobby bloggers, then they are doing badly.

It’s very unlikely a blog can generate significant revenue when it’s all over the place, addressing every topic that is out there.

Coupled with a beginner status with a long way to go, a focused mindset is simply a virtue.

Besides niching down, yourself as a blogger also needs to FOCUS.

Focus your energy, time, and other valuable resources on your blog and its development.

Don’t take it literally.

It doesn’t mean to pour all your time into blogging, especially if it’s still a side hustle in the meantime, rather, invest the most possible time that justifies the kind of result you desire.

Without it, getting things to work is much more complicated.

4. Blog Only When You Feel Like

Why not put a plan in place, probably an editorial calendar?

The takeoff of businesses means a lot to their long-term growth.

If there’s a more important time to invest time and resources into your blog, then it has to be the faceoff stages.

Doing things when we feel like has never helped anybody.

It’s rather a lackadaisical attitude that has killed many dreams.

Do you want to be a blogger who makes money doing what you love?

Organic SEO is no longer enough!

A lot more goes into successful blogging than search engine optimization nowadays, especially for new blogs.

You need to consider social media marketing (SMM) too.

So while you churn out more content out there, also include paid promotion and marketing strategies in your blogging plan.

Many bloggers will not tell you this part, that’s why I am.

6. Blogging Is Not The Easiest Way To Make Money Online

Yea.

The majority of bloggers were inspired for the wrong reasons.

If you’ll give it what it takes, blogging will pay even faster than you may have thought, yet, it does not mean it’s a get-rich-quick scheme.

– This is some serious business, and you’ve got to treat it as one.

So if you are in this business to make the quickest money ASAP, then it’s a gamble. And like every gamble, you have a 50/50 chance of success.

How Long To Start Making Money From Your Website

Before we get down to it, just know that promotion is key, and consistency is the only tunnel to achieving success in blogging.

So, on average, new blogs make money in 3 months.

Others do in 3 – 12 months.

The remaining do from 1year+.

A lot of bloggers never got to the level of making money on time and gave up.

For those set of bloggers, how long to start making money from your website is NEVER.

But why will somebody not get rewarded if the good book says, “for every labor, there’s a reward”?

Now let’s analyze the different stages of a blog and know at what stage it typically does make the bulks.

1. Under Development

At this stage, a blogger is concerned about getting the foundations ready.

A blog will need a niche of focus, that is decided at this stage.

After the niche is selected, then the website hosting provider of choice is put into consideration.

Then the domain subscription is paid, and tadaa, you have yourself a website that is ready to go live.

2. Just Went Live

With the fundamentals down, a website is ready to launch on the world wide web.

For the first few weeks, a blogger deals with technical issues such as the choice of CMS, which I recommend WordPress, theme, etc.

Now the CMS is installed, and the theme is activated. Then attention is shifted to getting the first kickoff content, probably 10 – 30+.

By age, the blog could be around 2months plus at this stage, or even less.

Note that at this stage, money may or not have been made.

3. Content is Solved

With up to 30 blog posts, there’s a decent number of posts to work with.

Then we scale it up to 100+ blog posts, and (in the future) – 1k and above.

So, if these few contents are of quality, then we can say that content is solved.

It’s time to focus on something else.

By age, this could be between 3 – and 6 months of work.

At this stage, money is likely made, at least $100. But not without the remaining ingredients below.

Since the money comes with the traffic, what could the traffic that generates the money be like in the different stages?

Traffic Stages To Start Making Money From Your Website

1. Tent-naire

** 10 – 99 daily visitors, 300+ monthly minimum accumulated visitors.

To be a tent-naire average daily traffic earner is not hard to achieve.

Your blog could be 2weeks old but there’ll be no money made.

The exception here is affiliate marketers. They can pull off a decent weekly earning even with this level of traffic.

That is – if – they know the craft so well, which is unlikely for a beginner.

2. Hundred-naire

** 100 – 999 daily visitors, 3,000+ monthly minimum accumulated visitors.

On a few hundred per day average traffic, things start to get interesting a bit.

A few things are possible at this stage.

Advertisement revenue picks up, as well as the number of sales affiliate marketers could make.

The blog could be as young as 3months, to as old as 1 year at this stage.

As the traffic volume increases, the potentials continue to expand too.

3. Thousand-naire

** 1000 – 999,999 daily visitors, 30,000+ minimum monthly accumulated visitors.

You are a thousand-naire, now you can easily make upwards of $300 – $10,000 per month.

Your blog is one of the popular ones that show up on google frequently too.

If you have a good monetization strategy- which we’ll discuss in a bit- then you can live off of your blog earnings.

That means, at this stage, you can become a full-time blogger that lives the life of your dreams.

4. Millionaire

** 1,000,000 – 999,999,999 daily visitors, 30,000,000 minimum monthly accumulated visitors.

This set of bloggers chills with the big boys.

A blogger that pulls this milestone is extraordinaire- those are just rare.

At this stage, as much as you can imagine could be achieved.

Your earnings per month should be upwards of $10,000 to $1m+.

Your salary is best calculated in net worth if you are on top of your monetization game.

So let’s talk about it, other roadblocks that could hinder this beautiful ambition.

RoadBlocks For New Sites

Everything we’ve discussed here so far hangs on a few parameters.

1. Your blog niche matters a lot.

There are a lot of things to consider before choosing a niche, besides what you are passionate about and what you know a great deal about.

One of them is the size of the niche. If you monetize using display ad networks like Google AdSense, the volume of the niche hugely impacts how many clicks and impressions you could get on display ads per day.

That in turn affects your daily and monthly revenue. So the bigger the better.

Other research for affiliate marketers to make include how much could the target audience afford to spend versus how much they are likely willing to spend on a product.

2. Traffic quality is another big fish in the water.

All traffic is not the same.

For instance, traffic from the USA, Canada, UK, etc, can’t be compared with traffic from countries like China, India, etc.

The former way a ton more. And because of this valuation, the payments are also much higher.
